I just got word that former MCFL poster from the late 1990's/early
2000's Dave Hitt passed away from Lung Cancer this morning. Let's all
have a moment of silence and take some time to share some memories and
pay respects to one of the most influential frugal living and smoking
advocates this group has ever known.

Just because of the things I say, but it's only a calculated risk.
Every time I ride a bicycle in traffic I embark on a suicidal mission.
I could choose to stay in the cage but that's also a suicidal and
painful mission that will result in long agony.

I wished I could deliver on something that proclaimed to drivers, "I
explode upon impact!" but I can't. My only weapon is my life and my
brain. I say, "Hey if I go I rather not take my wisdom with me" and
expose the rather dangerous and depressing conditions in the jungle,
which officially is called DEMOCRACY.

I read this recently and somehow it stayed with me: NOBODY COMES OUT
OF HERE ALIVE! Or maybe all those who fear are just paranoid and we
truly live in democracy even if we are ignored. Time will tell.

NOTE: Off I go into no-man's land with my monkey bike. My huge ape
bike is in storage.

MESSAGE FOR GOD: FUCK YOU! But of course, there's no God.

Sorry, you seem to be the Chairman Mao type.

Well, at least he did something good for bikes. But now Chinese want
to be like Americans and drive big SUVs. Don't they have an identity
like the Dutch?

Has the problem gone away? Is there any hope that it will?

Of course I have to repeat myself. I just try to be a little creative,
don't you think?

OK, let me ask you since you believe in Jesus, the afterlife and bla,
bla, bla.

Aren't *you* afraid of riding a bicycle in traffic? You know what the
brave cyclists do around here? Ride on the sidewalk like pussies and
endangered pedestrians in the process.

This actually sounds like David vs. Goliath, but David got no stones
in his arsenal. Pitiful, right?

Sure, it's a possibility. It's called tax fraud, you tax evading cheat! Are

well a group I used to belong too has a annual cruise / trip to exotic
locations, the group NSSEA, national school supply equiptement
association.

The entire cruise is tax deductible with meetings training etc, that
meet IRS rules. one year they went to the filming location of blue
lagoon, a resort rather than a cruise. all perfectly tax deductible.

so yes it is if you follow the rules

TOPIC: Ask Amy: Mothers who "host" their own showers

From: "Bill"

I was just explaining to a young friend about relationships, being a
"giving" type person (how I and many older people I know are), and how
many young people I know these days are quite selfish / self centered,
etc.

And this does not surprise me one bit - giving your own shower to get
the gifts. But birds of a feather flock together. I would also not be
surprised if the invited "friends" to such a shower brought no gifts!

"Lenona" wrote in message
(I have to say, in Amy's response, I REALLY think her second paragraph
is pathetic. What, exactly, has "changed" that makes it OK to demand
gifts - no matter how much-needed - without at least apologizing for
doing so? Thankfully, most of the commentators at the Washington Post
agreed that Amy was wrong to suggest that it should now be "polite" to
do this. They also pointed out that if no friend or relative is
willing to host a shower - and what ARE the expenses for doing that,
other than punch and cookies, anyway? - there's probably something
wrong with the mother. At the least, maybe she shouldn't be having
kids right now.)

Lenona.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/23/AR2010122306131.html

Dear Amy: An expectant mother sent me an invitation to attend a baby
shower she is giving for herself in her house.

I find this to be crude begging for gifts (gimme, gimme), but I am
told that this is a new fashion when relatives or friends cannot or
will not give showers for an occasion (engagement, wedding, arrival of
a baby, etc.)

Am I behind the times when I find this demeaning? Disgusted Guest

Dear Disgusted: I fail to see how this invitation is demeaning to
you, anyway.

There was a time in relatively recent memory when people wouldn't host
showers to celebrate their own milestones (nor could immediate family
members host), but times have changed, circumstances have changed,
values have changed and marriage and families have definitely
changed.

If you are so disgusted by this idea that you won't be able to be a
good and courteous guest (and you don't sound able to be), then you
should send your regrets. Politely. Without comment.

It seems very strange that these sneaky attacks against common sense
and science take place right at the Toyota newsgroup. Whoever sells
cars or oil will naturally try to discredit evidence as was the case
of smoking and cancer.

We all know the corporations run the show but this particular denial
goes beyond bad taste and senseless humor.

I want unbiased opinions coming from Shimano or Fuji bikes... Hey,
whatever happened to that brand?
