Just heard about this...kind of weird that I should see the news in the Miami Herald first...but I suspect that it would be pretty hard to find a meteorite THAT big. (They tend to break into much smaller pieces than what the scientists are asking for, IIRC.)

Associated Press

A meteor streaking across the New England sky captured attention in several states Tuesday – and was captured on video by several people and webcams.

The American Meteor Society reported more than 300 sightings in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and parts of Canada.

Portland police Sgt. Tim Farris was parked in front of the Central Fire Station when his camera captured the meteor lighting up the sky.

The shocked officer was heard saying, "Oh, my God!"

Webcams in Portsmouth Harbor in New Hampshire and at the Burlington Airport in Vermont captured the fireball. Video shot by another officer in New York and a motorist in Vermont also surfaced.

The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum suspects the meteor crashed into the woods of northwestern Maine, based on preliminary findings. It's offering a $20,000 reward if someone recovers a piece of the meteorite weighing at least 2.2 pounds.

Dear Abby: My boyfriend of 5 1/2 years died unexpectedly. Like so many other Americans, he didn't have life insurance or any money to cover his funeral. For the last 2 1/2 years he had lived with me, and I provided the primary financial support. His mother made the decisions about the coffin and service. She asked that money instead of flowers be given to help pay for the funeral. Around $4,000 is still owed. She now says the remaining cost should be divided between her, her ex-husband and me. I don't think I should be obligated to assume a third of the funeral costs. If I had been married to him, the situation would be different. I have friends and family who agree with me and others who don't. If I tell his mother it isn't my responsibility to pay, she and other family members may never speak to me again. What is your response to this scenario?

Especially if they want to promote abortion and the spread of disease.

Forgot to say something: Married people, as a rule, are not the ones who buy condoms, for obvious reasons.* So if a community frowns greatly on unmarried people having sex, especially teens, it would seem likely that they would restrict condom access.

*In the same vein, a woman who chooses to risk the health hazards of the Pill is likely in a long-term relationship.

I dunno, my dad used to tell of an old German farmer he knew in his
youth who aged his cheese in the manure pile. I think the desired
effect was more about the temperature of the composting manure (this
was in Minnesota) than any aroma/flavor imparted, though.
