Not that I'll stop shopping there but 99 cents Only (sorry...normally
I'd use the actual cents symbol but I haven't figured out how to do
alt-0162 on this iMAC G3 :P) Anyway, the store still shows the big 99
Only but I must have missed the little .99 they stuck on some of the
signs inside. The register shows .99999 and that's how they're
staying under $1...sort of. All the shelf markings, however, still
show .99. According to this USA Today story it's the first time in 26
years they raised prices:

Interesting article, although it the price raise isn't really material
- it's still fascinating to see that they did indeed increase their
prices by effectively $0.01.

I think it's more likely that he takes the relatively rust free west
coast cars to the midwest where they are fixed up for resale. There was
a Minneapolis PBS piece about a guy who does just that(fixes up Metros
as well). One of his customers was a woman from Boston, I believe, who
flew out to The Cities and drove it back home.

Excellent. We bought one new in '93 and it still runs like champ. Of
course it only has 190k on it. It is amazing the bulky items they can
carry. I average about 42mpg

Aspires do have improved brakes and suspension over the Festiva. The
shape certainly isn't as practical as the Festiva box. Could be they
never tested one. From what I know, other then looks, they are pretty

You might notice that I said interms of energy content, which has nothing
much to do with the efficiency of converting BTU's to work.

Gasoline engines used to have higher compression ratios, which were reduced
to cut down on NOx emissions. Diesels produce more NOx than present day gas
engines as a result.

boondoggle. But the state is paved with pork�from its half-empty
high-speed ferries to the $500,000 that the federally-funded Alaska
Fisheries Marketing Board gave to Alaska Airlines to paint a giant king
salmon on one of its aeroplanes. Citizens Against Government Waste, a
watchdog, calculates that Alaska guzzles more pork per head than any
other state.

Why is Washington so generous to Alaskans? It is not as if they have no
other source of cash. Alaska's oil wells allow the state to function
without levying an income tax. And the interest from a $34 billion
�Permanent Fund�, in which past oil receipts are stashed, gives every
Alaskan man, woman and child an annual handout, expected to be about
$1,000 this year.

Of course if you want the ultimate handout city of all America, you
need to look no further than Wasilla:

A sampling of the 14 earmarks, totaling $26.9 million, directed to the
city of Wasilla from 2000 through 2003. Sarah Palin was mayor from 1996
to 2002.

� $1.9 million for the Wasilla Intermodal Transit Project, to realign
rail and bus routes to increase use of public transit in the region.

� $500,000 for Kids Are People Inc., an emergency shelter for youths
transitioning out of juvenile detention facilities.

� $15 million for a rail project to connect Wasilla with Girdwood, the
home town of Sen. Ted Stevens (R).

� $1.75 million to upgrade emergency communications between authorities
at the Wasilla dispatch center.

I believe the current handout total for Wasilla is $84,000 for every
many woman and child. There were no earmarks befroe Palin ws mayor. No
paid lobbyists.

And don't forget that Palin took that 230 million for the bridge to
nowhere.

Seems that just like Bush, Palin is a socialist when it comes to her
friends.

What I can't believe is that both sides are still campaigning on the
old standards like "tax cuts" and "reforming health care". With the
recent events (and those imminently pending) those items are
undeniably off the table, for at least the next four years.

What's the deal? Haven't their campaign lackeys had enough time to
cobble together some other bullshit platforms to buy votes since the
Wall Street implosion hit? What a bunch of clowns!

500 billion has already been committed without it, ad hoc.

So look at the bill that just passed, the same as last week but with
billions in pork. I support that only because there is nothing else that
has a chance of working in the necessary time frame. The current
approach was even more expensive and obviously, obviously not working.

The next president will have to straighten out the financial mess.
There is nothing that can be done under W. Clinton aimed at the deficit
under the previous Bush and it took 6 years to right that.

We differ in that I think this is a crisis. I did not think that when
Colin Powell gave his dog and pony show before the war and I have not
thought that about the Patriot Act or Warrentless Surveilance, or
torture. GE, with superb credit, "borrowed" 3 billion from Buffett under
poor terms. That is how tight credit had gotten.

Neither do I think this will be sufficient in itself.

An eclectic group of fiber artists will be demonstrating their craft
and exhibiting their wares.

Each exhibitor provides either free information and/or live fiber
producing animal exhibit or pamphlets regarding fiber art or fiber
production. All products sold are fiber art related including raw
wool, processed wool, yarn (wool, cotton, exotic blends), shawls,
quilts, blankets, quilted batts, felt making supplies and rug weaving
supplies to name a few. Some of the animals in attendance in years
past have been llamas, sheep, goats, rabbits and alpacas.
