Our Midland's reach into the next town (17miles) easily. Many GMRS/FRS
radios have a 26 mile range, depending on terrain of course, but much
more than a mile or two.

Never seen the GMRS/FRS with that type of distance, but they could always
get into ham radio. A 2 meter handheld would have quite a range on it as
long as there is a repeater locally.

Getting into ham radio would allow you the possibilities of talking world
wide with people.

Don't know anything about the license in Canada though.

What we need to do is reform our welfare system. Those coming for
that reason will stop.

If your not using the BoA ATM, why are you worried about the fees?

Try going to Las Vegas and using an ATM in a casino and see what the fees
are there!

I have been away from this NG, well, all NG's for awhile. Out of curiosity
come back in here and check to see what's going on and wham, full of spam
and cancelled messages.

Seems to have gone downhill since the first time I came in here years ago.

I sympathize with your frustration, but the custom of selling food by
quarters of a pound is so long-established that it's not surprising you had
trouble. I'd probably have asked for "between and quarter and half pound."
They'll usually add a little bit to the scale at a time, so you'd likely
have the chance to tell them when to stop.

I recently pulled out an old sprouting jar from the closet. In the past, I'd
buy "sprouting" seeds from a health food store. Anybody know if dry beans or
something else that can be bought cheaply from the grocery can be used
successfully?

I don't know what the difference might be, but I've sprouted everyday
stuff like soybeans and sunflower seeds. What I recall was that the
"sprouting" seeds seemed to be pretty small seeds, which might mean
they weren't specifically for sprouting but that nobody would have
a use for them other than for sprouting. You obviously do lots
with soybeans, but what would you use radish seeds for other than
growing things?
