Why is it acceptible to have a phone in a tiny little thing on the
corner of the property, but not inside the house or business ?

Nope, mostly because they claim that pathetic collection of fairy storys of theirs
proscribes stuff like that, even if it was written a few thousand years or more ago.

You could say that about anyone, I would suppose. Lots of folks seem
to have silly ideas about all sorts of things and a lot of people
seem to accept some very bad things in their lives without a thought.

It's a wonder to me that most parents let their children have access
to technologies like unfiltered internet, video games and highly
processed, sugar laden junk food.

It's been explained to me that they do things that way because the
phone is a useful instrument but when it's placed inside the home
it interferes with normal social behavior. They prefer to talk to
people face to face and this way they don't have any problems with
telemarketers during dinner or teenagers spending all their time
on the phone.

Do they give you "free" equipment though? That is often what the $99

The 99 bucks is their way of recovering the "free" installation if you
cancel before they get it back in the regular monthly rate.
They are still going to want the box back but they let you keep the
filters.
My experience is Embarq DSL is slower than Comcast (.900 - 1mz vs
about 1.5-1.7 with cable) but the Embarq has been a lot more reliable.
Comcast was down at least once a week and sometime for days at a time.
That is ZERO mz. Average that into a month's service and Embarq is a
whole lot faster.

I used to have a dedicated line for dialup. Now I have 8Mb/512Kb cable
for no more than I was paying for that dialup (ISP + phoneline). The
cable internet is more reliable too.

Actually walmart deserves little praise because it didn't hurt them at
all because they will simply ding the vendor. They will even accept
stuff that has been obviously misused or damaged by the user and just
nail the supplier so they can look good.

with JC Pennys / unlike Macys).

Perhaps it's the current recession, but I've found even Home Depot to be

They are. You can still find DVD/VCR combo machines, but there are no
VCR only machines anymore. I found a VCR for sale last year for $29,
and it was marked "close-out/discontinued". I bought it and stashed it
in the closet. I have a huge videotape collection that's really not
worth transferring to DVD. This way, when my current VCR dies (and
some year it will), I'll still have a machine which plays this
technology. Maybe they will continue to make DVD/VCR combos, but I
doubt they will forever. It was VERY hard to find a good turntable in
recent years, although they seem to be making a comeback from online
sources.

Maybe. Electronic components can fail over time, whether you use them
or not, and sometimes just because you DON'T use them. Ask any
old-timer about "dried-out caps" and be prepared for a story or two.
If there is any rubber in the drive mechanism, it'll dry out,
lubricants will congeal, unplated metals rust, springs lose tension,
insulation get brittle, etc. Using old electro-mechanical devices can
be a crap shoot.

Good story. And you must have sounded "genuine" about the problem;
then again they'll put it on the shelf as "out of the box" on
clearance for maybe $5 less. As for Wal-Mart in general having
"impressive customer service"...that's kind of an oxymoron since it's
a self-serve store and most departments have little or no on the floor
assistance. I think it would also depend on what state/city you're
in; Kentucky or Tennessee would probably have better customer service
at Wal-Mart than California or New York just because of the people
available.

You know those VHS tapes degrade over time, right? They don't have an
infinite shelf life (then again, the jury is still out on DVD shelf
life). I've started transferring my home movies to DVD (Sam's Club
had a killer deal on a DVD recorder, no PC needed for $99 before
Christmas, I bought one for me and one for my brother). However I
still have 4.5 VCR's at home (.5 is for the one I retired because it
started wanting to eat tapes).

I found that out the hard way. I bought a CD/TV (looks like a CD
boombox with a 5in color TV) combo at JC Penney for about $150;
finally broke it out of the box almost a year later and within 10
minutes of turning it on it blew a fuse. My dad is an electronics
tech; he suggested a slightly higher amp fuse; installed that and it
doesn't blow the fuse but does have a high pitched whine sound only
when playing the TV. I learned my lesson....try out the device ASAP
because I could have returned that if I had tested it earlier.

de cartas y todas con un dólar adentro. Y siguen y siguen llegando.
Parece que al fin podré salir de mis carencias, Dios me ha escuchado.
Te cuento que soy un hombre muy creyente y muy honesto, por eso te
invito a que participes en este negocio, en este juego, en esta
cadena, como tú quieras llamarle. Yo te doy un testimonio que
realmente da resultado y no te arrepentirás de
invertir seis dólares o seis euros, pues se te van a multiplicar en
miles. Para que te
quede más claro, te transmito el aviso que yo encontré, es largo pero
es necesario que lo leas y sigas las instrucciones.

"Días atrás, cuando "navegaba" por estas páginas de Noticias, así
mismo como Ud. lo está
haciendo ahora, se me apareció un articulo similar a este que decía
que uno puede ganar miles de dólares o euros en pocas semanas con una
inversión de $6 dólares. O 6 euros. Enseguida pensé, "Oh no! Otra
estafa más?", pero como a la mayoría de nosotros, la curiosidad pudo
más, y seguí leyendo. Y seguía diciendo que Ud. enviara $1 dólar o un
euro a cada uno de los 6 nombres y direcciones mencionadas en este
artículo. Entonces Ud. anota su nombre y dirección al final de la
lista reemplazando al #6, y envíe o ponga este articulo en por lo
menos 200 "newsgroups" y "Foros"(Hay miles de estos en todo el mundo).
Ningún truco, eso fue todo.

Después de pensarlo una y otra vez, decidí probarlo. Pensé que lo
único que podría perder eran 6 estampillas y $6 verdad?. Como
probablemente muchos de nosotros, estaba un poco preocupado por la
legalidad de todo esto. Entonces consulte con el Correo Central y me
confirmaron que en realidad era legal!!. Entonces invertí mis 6
dólares .IMAGÍNENSE QUÉ!!!... a los 7 días, empecé a recibir dinero
por correo!!!. Estaba sorprendido! todavía pensaba esto terminará
enseguida, y no pensé más en otra cosa. Pero el dinero seguía
llegando. En mi primera semana hice unos $20 a $30 dólares. Para el
final de la segunda semana tenia hecho un total de más de $1,000!!!!!
En la tercera semana recibí más de $10,000 y todavía seguía llegando
más. Esta es mi cuarta semana ya hice un total de mas de $41,000 y
esto sigue

llegando más rápidamente. Esto se puso serio!!!! Todo esto realmente
valió la inversión de $6 y 6 estampillas.

Permítanme explicarles como funciona esto y lo más importante el
porqué funciona tan bien, Ud. asegúrese de imprimir una copia de este
artículo AHORA, para poder sacar toda la

información a medida que lo necesite. El proceso es muy fácil y
consiste en 3 pasos sencillos:

PASO 1:

Obtenga 6 hojas de papel y escriba en cada una de ellas "FAVOR DE
INCLUIRME EN SU LISTA DE CORRESPONDENCIA O E-MAIL". Y DEBAJO escribe
tu DIRECCION DE E-MAIL.

PASO 2:

Ahora consiga 6 billetes de US$1 dólar o un euro dependiendo del pais
donde vivas e

introduzca cada dólar o euro en un sobre con la hoja de manera que el
billete no se vea através del sobre!!. Mejor ponerlo encerrado en un
papel de color oscuro para prevenir robos de correspondencia. Ahora
Ud. debería tener 6 sobres sellados y en ellos un papel con la frase
mencionada,
su nombre y dirección, y un billete de $1 dólar o un Euro. Lo que Ud.
esta haciendo
con esto es crear un "servicio" y eso hace que esto sea ABSOLUTAMENTE

Ahora elimine el 1 de esta lista de arriba y mueva los otros nombres
un número para arriba (el 6 se convierte en 5, el 5 se convierte en 4,
Etc.) y agregue SU NOMBRE y dirección en el 6 de la lista. RECUERDA,
TIENES QUEBORRAR EL PUESTO 1( NO EL 6 ) , MODIFICAR EL NUMERO DE
PUESTOS A LOS QUE QUEDAN , Y AGREGAR TU NOMBRE Y DIRECCION EN EL
PUESTO 6.

PASO 3: Cambie todo lo que crea conveniente de este articulo, pero
trate de mantenerlo lo mas posible cercano al original. Ahora ponga su
artículo en por lo menos 200"newsgroups"(existen más de 24,000grupos).
Sólo necesita 200, pero cuando más cantidad lo ponga, más dinero le
llegará!!!. Aquí van a algunas indicaciones de cómo introducirse en
los "newsgroups": COMO MANEJAR LOS "NEWSGROUPS": 1.- Ud. no necesita

los "Newsgroups" de su "server" aparecerá. Haga click en cualquier
newsgroup. De este newsgroup haga click debajo de "TO NEWS", el cual
debería estar arriba, en el extremo izquierdo de la página de
newsgroups. Esto le llevará a la caja de mensajes. Llene este espacio.
Este sea el título que verán todos cuando recorran por la lista de un
grupo en particular. 5.- Marque el contenido completo del .txt file y
copie usando la misma técnica
anterior. Regrese al Newsgroup "TO NEWS" y Ud. está creando y
empastando
esta carta dentro de su programa o "posting". 6.- Presione "send" que
esta en la parte superior izquierda. Y UD. HA FINALIZADO CON SU
PRIMERO!...FELICITACIONES!!! . LOS QUE USAN INTERNET EXPLORER, PASO #
4: Vaya al Newsgroups y seleccione "Post an Article". PASO # 4: Cargue
el artículo. PASO # 5: Repita el No. 5 que esta indicado más arriba en

que hacer es meterse en diferentes "Newsgroups" y empastarlos, cuando
