Axshully, imo, the best part is the price. Indian companies can legally
clone drugs as long as their process differs. I think Big Pharm from
the US either bribed or threatened them into stopping this practice, but
only new drugs, not those already on the market.

After googling for opinions on this site, I suggested it to an oldtimer
a few years ago. He much preferred paying $2 for his pills, than $10 in
the US.

Considering India's notorious reputation for counterfeit goods, how can
you have any trust in what you are getting?

"China, with as high as 40% counterfeit drugs nationwide, and India are
at the center of the fake pharmaceutical trade, with their products
being used around the world. (39) One reason for the prevalence in
developing countries is a relaxed attitude toward both domestic patent
laws and poorly enforced legislation."

If you're a prospective BRIDE (or bridegroom) and you're thinking
(dreaming) of that big, once-in-a-lifetime, EXPENSIVE wedding and
RECEPTION(!) -- why don't you think ... again.

As you know, half of U.S. marriages end up on the rocks.

And as you also know, planned wedding ceremonies and receptions are
COSTLY. Not too unlike FUNERALS, where a perfect stranger makes
outrageous arrangements the costs of which are not even close to the
actual funeral home's out-of-pocket expenses.

Wedding events, however, are way beyond the rip-offs generated by
morticians. And that wedding planner, the photographer, and all the
other highly dispensable hangers-on -- you'll never SEE 'em again.
Even if you have post-nuptial complaints!

Is it, are they, worth it?

You can do yourself and your betrothed a big favor by electing one of
the following options:

a) Get hitched at City Hall and forego going into the tens of
thousands of dollars of big DEBT your cousin spent on her wedding
three years ago, just three years before her divorce.

b) Plan your wedding/reception so carefully that you'll hardly miss
the dough you spent. And the disliked people you avoided.

c) Have your religious leader marry you in a small church ceremony,
just to be able to say your marriage is somehow "blessed," pay the
preach the $75, then go on a nice honeymoon within your budget(s).

d) Continue to live together sans license and go on making memories
and enjoying the closeness, conversations, cuddling -- and fine sex --
you've come to love -- and save, save, save for your future together.

When it comes your marriage, getting ripped-off doesn't guarantee
anything but the bills in the mail.

---------------------
"Your Big Fat Foolish Wedding"

By Michelle Singletary
Thursday, March 20, 2008; D02

In several recent online discussions, I've gotten into a debate about
the cost of a wedding.

It all started when someone on a tight budget asked: "How do I find a
place and feed 100 people?"

I responded that the best solution is to stick to your budget and cut
the guest list.

Well, you would have thought I had attacked the very institution of
family.

Here's what one person said: "I was surprised at your advice to the
poster who wanted to reduce wedding costs.
I absolutely agree that people should stick to a wedding budget, but I
was raised to believe that weddings are not just about the couple, but
about the families being joined together. So the guest list is the
last thing to cut, not the first."

Another wrote: "Certain cultures and religions do place a lot of
emphasis on family during a wedding celebration."

Then there was this response from someone who cut costs and was
ridiculed by relatives.

"My family was just appalled at the 'quaintness' of my wedding, a
lunch with a cocktail hour," the person wrote. "It wasn't a big New
York blowout. I got married in Atlanta. They wouldn't even have
thought about coming down here if they weren't getting fed. Honestly,
I would have been embarrassed to do much less."

There you have it, folks.

This is one the reasons so many people are broke. They -- perhaps even
you -- are trying to meet other people's expectations.

A wedding is not about the family. The families aren't being joined
together (although you likely will have to deal with a lot of family
drama). A wedding is about the couple. (And no, Bridezilla, it's not
about you.) It's supposed to be about the vows the two people make to
each other. Onlookers, except for the required official and/or
witnesses, are expendable.

Yes, I'm aware that many cultures have blowout bashes to celebrate the
holy matrimony of two people. In some cultures, brides, grooms or
their families spend precious resources -- money, farm animals, etc.
-- to pay for weddings.

But some traditions, no matter how venerable, should be abandoned if
they aren't reasonable. You can and should put a price on this special
day. You should have the wedding you can afford.

When I say afford, I mean weigh the wedding expenses against how that
money could be better used. Consider whether it's worth spending
upward of $30,000 for a wedding in which the majority of the costs
goes toward the reception and honeymoon -- a party and vacation.

At least ask yourself if the money you plan on spending for some
lavish wedding and honeymoon could be better used to pay down debt,
buy a home or invest for retirement.

I've always believed that you start with a budget. Then you plan for
the wedding. That's what I did when planning my own wedding almost 17
years ago. If you start with a guest list, the venue or any of the
other things you want, you will overspend.

ING Direct, the online banking company, surveyed British couples and
found that spiraling costs forced people to postpone their weddings or
abandon getting hitched altogether. Fifteen percent of the couples
said they didn't think they would ever get married, with the majority
claiming this was because of the huge cost involved.

How idiotic that folks who say they've found the love of their life
won't commit because they don't have the funds for the celebration.
You can get married for what it costs to attend a play.

Trust me, there are people who have found marital bliss by spending
less.

"I've already found the friend's back yard to hold the wedding/
reception," one person wrote. "The rest of our money will be spent on
a mini-weekend away until we can afford the European getaway of 'my'
dreams, perhaps as a five-year anniversary gift."

If friends or family complain about a small guest list, simply say,
"We would love to have a bigger bash but we just can't." End the
discussion there, because it's your life and your money.

Here's what I tell couples fretting over paying for a big wedding.
Spend lavishly for your wedding if you like -- with money you have
saved, not with any debt -- if you can check off the following:

* You have three to six months of living expenses saved up.

* You have a life-happens fund. This fund is used for everyday
expenses, such as car repairs.

* You both are saving for retirement.

* Neither of you has credit card or student loan debt.

* If you have children, there are college funds for each in place.

If you can't check off every single item on that list, then you need
to reconsider big reception plans and go on an inexpensive honeymoon,
because you can't afford more.

Would you really be sitting in there long enough to get that much
grease? They do use powerful vents over the fryers...I'm sure your
laptop would live for an hour. Or you could get inventive...and use a
sheet of Saran wrap on the keyboard and one of them laptop
"envelopes" (kinda like a book cover).

Ironic that both the supposed victim and alleged perp both chose to
hide in the good old USA.
Well, if he shows up here in this group, we will prison him with a
wall of flame posts.

Really? What's the long term capital gains rate in the U.S.? What's the tax on
dividends? Where do you suppose the "filthy rich" make mnost of their money?

Why don't you look up what the "filthy rich" (whatever your
definition) pays in taxes. You'll find it's a lot more than those
that aren't so "filthy".

Doesn't take too many big tax payments to get savvy. There are many
low income carpet layers for example that do all work under contract,
thus avoiding FICA tax. The profits are all in the inflated materials
cost and the labor is a dollar an hour. The down side is the sales tax
goes up, but since the sales tax is only half the FICA tax, it makes
sense to move all the profits into materials and little in labor. They
are not as stupid as you think.

Hello --

Paychex administers my employer's 401K plan with Fidelity.

Paychex does not invest my twice-monthly paycheck contribution to the
plan until 7 days after the paycheck date.

That is a long time for my funds to not be invested. Contributions to
my former plan, administered by ING were invested on the same day the
paycheck was issued.

Is it legal for an administrator to hold funds that long?

I could not think of another group in which to post this question, and
will appreciate any response, or information about other resources or
names of more appropriate groups in which to post..

Thanks in advance for any help.

Really? Well, I guess-- given your concern about your own money you set
aside to nurture you in your senescence-- you would know how money
grows.

Still I can't help but notice that you did not answer the question. BTW,
did you know that any small investor who placed a market order for Bear
Sterns (BSC) stock last Sunday night (when it was $30/share) nearly
tripled their money by Tuesday afternoon (purchased stock @ $2.86/share
@ market open on Monday morning and sold on Tuesday for ~ $8/share)?
Less $20 in brokerage fees, of course.

Of course, if a person doesn't really care where his money was while BSC
stock tripled, well, that's okay. After all, "financial markets don't
really work like that." More meat for me.

Just imagine what JP Morgan made on the deal. You know, like the people
who get to hold onto your retirement money for three weeks. But it's all
good. I'm sure they think you are a great guy.

I find it mildly amusing that I used to have to ask the

buy Sudafed off the shelf, and now its the other way around.

It sounds like you're itching to buy a new car and will "justify" doing so
with any straw you can clutch out of the wind.

There's no added hassle in completely paying off your present car - you just
mail in your monthly payment as usual. If you're planning on buying the new
car with a loan, you'll be making monthly payments anyway.

Same for the title - when the car is paid off, you get a piece of paper in
the mail from the loan company, and you file it so that you have it when you
do dispose of the car. I suppose that's a little trouble - five or ten
seconds worth.

If you want a new car, and can afford it - hey, it's your money, you don't
have to justify it to anyone (well, except your spouse). But if your sole
motivator is to avoid getting a clear title, spend at least as much time
thinking about it as you did in writing the question and reading the
answers.

constructed by hand, and required approximately 1000 steps of manual
dexterity. The Jaeger-LeCoultre watchmakers of today still adjust
their watches by hand, as this traditional, labor-intensive method has
proven to enhance timekeeping accuracy. In the 1930s, the Art deco
movement greatly affected the Jaeger-LeCoultre watch product line; as
the company believed that the beauty of the watch appearance should be
a representation of the sophistication of the watch movement embedded
within. Today, the Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are constructed with these
same design principals, making the Jaeger-LeCoultre watches wearable,
functional works of modern art. Haob2b.com is proud to offer

constructed by hand, and required approximately 1000 steps of manual

All tricks widely used by the "lower income" groups who "pay no taxes"?

Never realized the lower income groups were so savvy.

Doesn't sound like a transcript of a discussion, more like a written
letter. I notice she had no personal negative experiences. Seems to
me, Canadians posting here in the past were generally quite satisfied
with their system.

If it were me, think I'd snoop in some Canadian forums, such as:

old, but might be interesting

If I were paranoid I'd look to see if this existing back in the days
of Hillary's first healthcare proposals when Bill was president.

There was an ochestrated campaign to smear Canadian Healthcare then ,
paid for by the US health insurance industry.

I'm not satisfied with everything in our system, there is room for
improvement in many areas. But at least my care is determined by a
doctor of my choosing, not a bean counter whose mandate is to cut
costs.

Makes little sense to have one steak and pay for it for the rest of your
life.

It amuses me when college kids (and others) use their credit cards to
eat out & then pay interest on that debt for 10-20 years.

Banks love it.

That's one of the reasons the company that owns one of my cards keeps
calling to ask if anything is wrong (or why I'm not buying anything).
I'm being very atypical by not having a balance on anything but my
mortgage right now. Sometimes buy something on a card and almost
immediately pay it off online to show I still "use" it. But I was one
of those college kids once upon a time; didn't equate the "have it
now" with "owe forever".

A man after my own heart! I've often bought used vehicles for $1200
or under, drive for 2-4 years....and then turn around and sell for the
same price. And none needed major work. Made me crazy when my
daughter and her bf wanted to dump the perfectly fine running 92 Camry
I found them for $500 (and it was the "luxury" model with moon roof,
etc) to buy a "new" Dodge Charger.

I've had good luck and bad. Some cars manage to pass an independent
mechanics inspection and still need major work 6 months later.

I bought a three year old Chrysler Intrepid after having it inspecting
and having reviewed all the maintenance records, and it was a
disaster.

I ditched it when it needed another $1200 of repairs, and the tranny,
which I had already replaced once, was ready to go again.

My current vehicle, a Mazda MPV runs as well as the day I bought it 3
years ago, and other than one tranny flush and fill(not on scheduled
maintenance), I've only replaced lightbulbs, air filters etc. And it
was 3 years old when I bought it. I will easily get another 4 years
more if the body holds out.

SUBPRIME MORTGAGE CRISIS

APOCALYPTIC PREDICTIONS

Albeit catastrophic, our predictions as based on the zodiacal
constellations of Cetus and Hydra receive their update through the
current subprime mortgage crisis.

WATER WARS

Underwater domains and water resources will become a primary focus and
currency in the new world that we are facing already tomorrow.

CRISIS PEAKS

The peaks of the current crisis have been studied and displayed
through a variety of diagrams ranging from 2002 AW197 perturbations to
the sword of Damocles. The years 2005 to 2012 have been covered in
detail. The present primary focus of the crisis is still the entrance
of 2002 AW197 and Venus in Hydra in the year 2007. The peaks are
accurately enlisted for the year 2007 through 2010 in the current
update, with portents covering 2005 through Mayan 2011 and the Vatican
crisis in the year 2014.

Well, when we built it with our own four hands, we built it with 2x6
studs and had it insulated with NuWool. It's tighter and
better insulated than most houses hereabouts.

It has always been our plan to put in a proper HVAC system; we've
been dithering for two years trying to find someone with an HVAC
license who will let us do some of the work. You can't buy a furnace
around here without a license. We've finally lined up a semi-retired
HVAC guy and the system goes in next month.

Don't take the laptop to work, or try it from outside, in your car.

I get mine free at home from the flower shop on the corner, with the
help of a small dish antenna.
