I was just going through my options on the new Regence plans. Trying to decide
between the three "Evolve HSA" plans. They have one that pays 50%, one that
pays 80%, and the HSA 100 plan that pays 100% after the $5000 deductable. All
three plans have $5000 maximum out-of-pocket. The 50% plan was $258/mo, the 80%
$375/mo for $3500 deductable, and the 100 plan was $485 for $5000 ded. I just
spent a hour on the phone, talking to 3 people to find out what the "HSA 100"
plan had that the others didn't to make it worth the extra money. The final
word - nothing. For the extra money, you just don't get paid anything until you
get to $5000 out-of-pocket. After that, all the plans pay the same. So the
cheaper plans pay significantly more. The 3rd guy I talked to at Regence said he
could get no answer to explain the high cost of the HSA 100 plan from his
management.

Additionally, Calculating the extra cost of the lower deductable plans, it turns
out that the cost difference is higher than the difference in what they would
pay me, worst case. So lower deductables just make no sense in my case.

I decided against their "Evolve Core" plans because the maximum out-of-pocket is
twice as high as the HSA plans - a $7500 "coinsurance max" plus the deductable
of $2500-$10000.

I was told I had, by law, till the end of this month to make a change after they
came up with these new plans. I just faxed the form in for my change. Maybe
others should look at their options

You're lucky. I don't know anyone with health insurance except people on
Medicare. Most of us have no "options". Of course, I haven't seen (needed) a
doctor in 27 years, so I wouldn't have insurance even if I could get it.

No luck involved. I pay for it. You all have the same options as I do.

I hope you've been saving all those dollars you've not spent on insurance. If
not, one of these days, you'll get in an accident, or have a severe illness, and
the next thing you know, you'll be bankrupt. It's the way our American system
works.

Nope. Not everyone can get insurance and the one place I can find it
(self-employed), they want more than I make in a year, and it doesn't pay
for ANYTHING until you meet the $5,000 deductible. As if. It doesn't help
that my state has decided to "protect" me by requiring all insurance to be
all-inclusive. So it's not possible just to get hospitalization or major
illness coverage, you have to have HMO coverage. So no, not everyone has the
same options you do. And no, I simply won't seek treatment if I become ill
or have an accident. I can't afford it. I accepted that fact years ago.

Too bad the polititions can't figure out how bad it is and do something about
it.

I origionally bought my insurance many years ago when I became self-employed.
The cost has gone up astronomically since then. I keep switching to higher
deductable, less generous plans to keep it reasonable. I know I need it because
of my "pre-existing" condition, and maintain it to handle major problems which
can be horribly expensive. I'm glad I "got into the system" while the getting
was good, if what you say is true.

And then it's totally insane that the Christians don't make room in
their prayers and driving for the cyclists.

I think they hate human ingenuity as well as smart people who are not
fat and dumb.

But we will have something to do in Heaven, we will be endlessly
singing praises to Gawd after being blessed with perfect singing
voices, which means that Gawd is such an insecure sociopath that He
must be endlessly praised, or that Heaven is utter Bunk as a concept.
Given that Christians can't stand to have anything that contradicts
their Bible taught in our schools (or even anything they think might
contradict what's in their imaginary bible), either one is a good
working hypothesis.

They will singing praise to Gawd from 8 to 12 in the morning. Then
half an hour lunch and more BS. That's Bible Study until 7pm, when you
get to discuss the stuff you learned and tested, until everybody goes
to bed at 10 pm.

When you get an F they send you to Hell, where everybody does whatever
they want.

God didn't give us the wheel because he was afraid. He made us bipedal
though which means he knew about the pedals.

He didn't give us wings because we would be flying all over the place,
and kings and rulers couldn't keep us confined to a place. Of course,
he hates people who like to roam around. Only angels can.

You sure? I think it says the Bible is to be recycled.

Unless you want to burn it but that's no good for the Planet.

Jesus is supercool...

If I were to come up with a brand air-conditioners, I'd call them
Jesus.

And the Devil is hot, superhot!

Searching for Mr. Right
Before facing cage after cage of homeless cats, consider your needs and
expectations. If yours is a full-time working household, I recommend
passing up kittens and adolescents (less than eighteen months old) in
favor of a more low-key adult whose energy needs will be easier to meet.
If you are a novice cat owner, stay away from "excessive" cats --
excessively shy, aggressive or demanding -- for they may provide too
great a challenge for your first experience. Your best bet is the
friendly, outgoing cat, who nudges an outstretched finger offered
through the cage bars and who nuzzles and purrs when you hold him in
your arms. This profile is a particularly good choice for families with
children younger than seven years of age.
Is coat color or pattern important? By all means, choose a cat who
attracts you, but remember that the gorgeous calico hiding at the back
of her cage may well go into prolonged hiding once she is released into
your home. A cat who is social and relaxed at a shelter usually has the
aplomb to meet the stresses that life throws her way. Consider the whole
cat, not just one element.
A cat in your life can add warmth, humor and peace of mind. A cat can
teach your child empathy for others while keeping her secrets. If you
can make the commitment, a cat is waiting to enhance your life in ways
only a kindred spirit can.

Anyone have any tips or info on what pitfalls may lie in renting a
storage unit for some fairly non-valuable stuff but has sentimental
value? Anyone with experience in this industry either as a consumer

Its really hard to generalize. It depends on the facilities in your
area. Ask neighbors and friends for recommendations. I just went with
the storage facility nearest to where I live and I have not had any
problems. Be sure though that you insure whatever you store in the
facility. In fact, many storage facilities require that you do that.

The temperature gauge in my 99 Camry sure acts like a fake analog gauge.
I've never had a gauge that was so rock steady. That's OK, it would
probably cause me worry if moved all over the place like real gauges do.

Let's see, you want to buy a discontinued printer.

I'm not directly familiar with that, but I have owned other Lexmarks.
The ink cartridges are expensive and the printer head is in the
cartridge. Ink has a tendency to dry there and you have to replace
cartridges that still have ink in them. With all the head cleaning and
realignment needed, you can run out of ink doing nothing. I'll never buy
another.

Spend a little more, the ink, not the cost of the printer is what you
need to worry about.

I've been liking the HP stuff (recycles ink used to clean heads), but
no manufacturer is without issues. Definitely get a separate black and I
prefer separate colors instead of all in the same cartridge.

Jeff

Like I'm getting here in the suburbs of Hell, the "Dallas Master Bike
plan". Hundreds of pages of maps for bike routes and paths, with no
way to pay for any of it. And in the city I live in it's even worse, I
can't even read the "Garland Master Bike Plan", because it doesn't
exist. But the city's 2030 master planning document refers to it
repeatedly, as if it was a real document.

Don't worry about the cost, paint is (or at least should be) cheap.
That's all Pasadena's bike lanes are. Totally useless, but they allow
the City Fathers to feel good about themselves. No idea how much the
'Share the Road' signs are, but they're equally useless and probably a
lot more expensive.

If they really want to be bike friendly they'd fix the goddam potholes
and paving discontinuities.

And here we think the feds are corrupt -- at least on a percentage basis
cities have it way over Washington when it comes to thieving officials.

That's why many people use mountain bikes in the middle of the city,
right?

Here we have dozens of bike lanes but they are never connected to be
usable.

I think what the person you were communicating with was saying was
that should we need transportation in Heaven, we would not need to
exert ourselves doing so, not that thee were fleets of SUVs carrying
people around. Of course in an infinitely large space over an
infinitely large surface, any transportation system eventually becomes
useless if it runs at a finite speed like all vehicular systems must.
SUVs, scooters, and even bicycles would be mere diversions in Heaven,
which would violate the stated purpose of praising the God that
brought us there, endlessly. From my point of view the only difference
between the way Heaven and Hell are depicted is the means of torment,
Hell being physical and Heaven being psychological.

In other words, cyclists suffer both Heaven and Hell. Heaven is the
promise, but Heaven is the reality.

If we got nothing to do up there though what's the point of being
there? Heaven will be Hell!

Even my parrots go crazy when I don't provide them something to do.
