Your life of material wealth can be reduced then, and you can probably sell your car and do without auto insurance. In the long run, you're looking at subsistence life style with likely assisted living, hoping your health holds up. Likely you could reduce circumstances of lodging, etc., not be taking vacations, letting relatives support you, instead of you them, finding comefortable sharing with similar others.

Another suggestion is that you sell what you don't need, move to a small city with less overhead, and take a new job using your skills, such as independent book-keeper/accountant for local businesses, or even stay at home similar jobs.

1. Buy a car you will maintain carefully, planning to keep it a long time, like a 3-5 year-old SUV.

2. Buy from Craigs List with your fingers crossed, hoping to get not only a cheap car but one your can invest some cash in. Yes, quite a few used cars at Craigs List sell for cash, so you can figure out how to do this securely and pay off repairs with mattress money. Have to watch out for ones not registered fully, ones with serious oil leaks, high mileage, transmission problems, ones with bald tires, ones labeled "rebuilt," etc..

3. Exception to the above might be an older car, long out of style, with body damage, but low miles and price, from original owner you trust.

Lots of frugal-living limitations in rural Alaska, if you are up to it.

I tried to teach with a rural public school contract--once--despite awareness of the problems, like hostile administer, critical Native villagers, very limited services and resources available, likely absence of housing, and such schools with history of short-term employments.

Yet if you are one of those independent, versatile, able, and willing survivors, such a teaching contract might be an alternative?

Do like blacks are doing, suing the US for slavery reparations. Could argue that California has enslaved by public schools, laws, and politics, so you are entitled to reparations.
