Thank you for your words of encouragement as I know that when the dogs
bark...

From the book "Freedom From Oil." The Wise TibetanMonkey asks, "What's
the role of the bicycle in it?" I guess they haven't thought about the
FRUGAL BIKE and that takes Revolutionary Wisdom:

As one who has extensively studied the issue of peak oil, especially
as it relates to transportation in the US, I was initially very
excited when "Freedom From Oil" was released. The book is an
absolutely wonderful overview some partial solutions to the oil
dependence problem, but I feel it is major flawed - the author very
clearly assumes that the overall goal is continuing to make the
automobile to overwhelming dominant factor in transportation in the US
and fails to cover the nation's aviation system. Mass transit is only
mentioned once or twice, and rail of any sort doesn't even get enough
mention to be included in the index. The reality is, as much as there
are many promising alternatives to oil, we dramatically need to cut
back energy use in this country to a sustainable level. This is going
to require a massive investment in mass transit, as well as the
development of high speed rail along major corridors, much like is
done in Europe. I was shocked that mass transit or high speed rail
didn't have a chapter of its own, though increased transit funding was
mentioned as part of the smart growth chapter. He only vaugely
suggests that mass transit might receive some funding from an
increased gas tax (the suggestion occupies all of once sentence in the
book).

Also doesn't show live data. Otherwise tempting.

Looking at this ($49):

Firmware not upgradeable, but... would that happen? It's a few years old
now.

Tony, which one do you have? What software?

I have just proven that any idiot can do copy and paste. RS is way too
stupid for me. TM is a genius compared to him. No one, but no one, will ever
bother with copy and paste type responses. RS is worse than a simpleton. He
is an asshole-shithead as I knew from the beginning. All you ever have to do
with asshole-shitheads is wave a red flag flag and they come running like
the dumb bull-shits that they are.

The fact is that he is done for on these newsgroups because I will step on
his every post where I figure he has taken some effort to say something. He
is strictly a one-liner type of moron, but I am good at that too. The winner
is not copy and paste, but whoever can expend the least effort and still get
the last best word. He will soon discover that calling others stupid and
fuckwits is a dead end.

I tried MagicJack, it worked for a month, then stop working. There is no
human help available, and I tossed it as a relatively cheap lesson learned.

I use Skype voice, with a yearly sutbscription and a phone number for my
business. Costs me $30 a year for my phone number, and $30 for unlimited
calling subscription. So for a total of $5 a month, I can recieve and make
calls anyhwere I have my laptop and wifi (which is pretty near everywhere -
I'm a computer programmer), and have basically "free" long distance.

Call quality is very good 80% of the time, good enough 18% of the time, and
utterly unusable 2% of the time. On the 2%, usually calling back does the
trick. Twice in a year and a half I've had to give up and use my cell
phone. I'm pretty happy, overal.

I've never tried OneSuite.com so I can't comment. But I'll check
it out.

As for Magic Jack, I only mention it because it's the cheapest option
available. I have not used it. Phone Power was my best recomendation
for Voip service. Huge boatload of features, two line ATA allows two
calls at once. Works with a standard phone.

Nationwide calling. It's about 6 cents per minute, non roaming.
There are also a pair of flat rate plans. $44.00 for unlimited,
29.99 for 1200 minutes. If you go over you drop back to the per
minute rate.

> right? Also, the MagicJack is hooked to my computer and we need the

Cordless phone.
I have my ATA sitting next to my router (it plugs directly into my
network). A cordless phone base station hooks to it. Several handsets
are scattered around the house. The second line of the ATA plugs
into the house phone wireing. That lets me use the wired phone
in my bedroom, and a two line phone in my office.

Here are a few more:
Set up here niece and sister on Phone Power too. In system calls
are free. But the setup cost can be steep for three parties.

Skype. I think Skype to Skype calls are free. Look around, I
recall seing wireless Skype compatible handsets somewhere.
These work like cordless phones for Skype. They connect via
wi-fi and your wireless router to your network to make your call.
Since it's wireless, it can be taken into the next room.

Thanks. Never heard of Phone Power, I'll have to check it out.
The main thing is that I want a phone for long distance that my wife
can use in the bedroom, that is not connected to the computer (I
already have Magic Jack connected to the computer for my business and
I don't think I can have a 2nd one, right?). And some of them don't
work well if I am USING the computer while she is using the phone,
right?

So really I think what I need is a cell phone that gives free or at
least, say, 1200 min. a month. I think 1200 min. a month would cover
her.

The thing with Page Plus Cellular (which I have on my "emergency" cell
phone that I keep in my car and only use when I really need a phone in
the car (seldom), is that you have to pay for the minutes even when
someone *calls you*, no? So that would not work for her even though
her sister has free minutes and can call her, right?

Jeez, this phone thing is very complicated! All I know is I don't
think I should have to pay ATT $35-40/month just for the ability to
receive local calls and make long distance calls via onesuite.

By the way, onesuite is great at 2.5cents a minute for ld from a land
line. But even that adds up when we call other states frequently...

I mean what kind of wisdom are you bringing to these highly
intelligent discussions, where the crocs are considered very stupid
animals?

My mice's propensity to spin on a wheel show more about human nature
than your predatory beasts. Yes, we are social animals who need to be
in movement. Now, drop your SUV and ride a bike.

Or are you one of those stupid Australians proud of their beer belly.
I hate to say it, but your beer is real bad.
