Don't go for this without more research -- I considered MagicJack, but
I Dogpiled it (as opposed to Googling it) and found some unfavorable
reviews.

Research is always good. I once looked into MagicJack and rejected it
because of the reviews (mostly involving terrible customer service).
And it generates popup ads on your computer. But there always will be
*some* bad reviews, and it was discussed early last month by the crowd
at comp.dcom.telecom (a moderated group that takes its telephones very
seriously indeed) and received positive mention (the thread was "any
user reviews of the magic jack? [telecom]" There are certainly other
options out there (I use talkloop.com, but that's a dialaround, not VoIP).

Wifi is great, where it is available. For home users like me,
my options are limited. My city has precisely one metro-
politan-wide wifi provider. Everybody else serves businesses
within very small pockets of the area I live.

The good suppliers are listening to consumers how understand the
implications of marketing them as a cessation device. Big Pharma pay
Big Bucks in order to market their products as cessation products.
They are not going to let someone move in on their patch without
paying their dues. Likewise WHO has notified a forum member that they
will be advising suppliers to not make any 'healthier' claims. They
have already issued a release advising suppliers not to market them as
a cessation product. Johnny Law will be eventually around to the
suppliers that do. But that doesn't bother the get rich quick
merchants. Recently a supplier in MN was flamed fairly heavily for
telling forum members that he was to put up a billboard telling Obama
'"Yes you can" quit smoking with the safe-cig' #1. even after a lot of
protest, he would not back down. users worry that actions like his
will incite the authorities to ban the e-cig on a fast horse as
otherwise e-cigs occupy a kind of loophole - nicotine is not illegal
just as caffeine is not illegal. In fact scientists are exploring the
health benefits of nicotine and discovering that it can aid in
treating a range of mental illnesses. That said e-cigs have already
been banned in Australia (nicotine classed as a poison), Mexico
(products that look like cigarettes are banned), Denmark (devices can
be sold but liquid must be imported and not marketed) as well as Iran,
Bahrain, Jordan and are regulated in S.Korea.

By that logic, the lowest possible price would be that they pay you to take
whatever it is off their hands. You get a cup of coffee without charge, and
they give you a buck to take it away. Or a hundred bucks. Or maybe a
million...come to think of it, why not a billion, or a trillion.

Every statement we make comes loaded with a raft of assumptions and
presumptions, background knowledge and context. In conversation with normal
people it isn't necessary to restate the whole shebang every time we open
our mouths to speak. In the context of a business, one of the basic
assumptions is the concept of the going concern, the idea that a company is
doing business now and will continue to do business for the forseeable
future. In order for that assumption to hold even approximately, there is a
minimum possible price that's considerably higher than free.

Illegal aliens cost our country over $250 billion in just social
services a year double that when you add in Free State & county funded
services that do not ask about legal standing double that when you add
in job and crimes (lower wages, identity theft, uninsured drivers, etc…

Is that a Rush statistic? Sounds like his type babble considering the
entire 2007 federal outlay for social programs was $500B where the
biggest costs were for Medicaid, unemployment compensation & food stamps.

Are you saying only illegals get federal assistance?

Yes, there are ways around the rules. Below is the cost just for
California.

California's nearly 3 million illegal immigrants cost taxpayers nearly
$9 billion each year, according to a new report released last week by
the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a Washington, D.C.-
based group that promotes stricter immigration policies

So at an average of $3k for each illegal in CA, assuming CA is typical,
$250B nationally works out to 83M illegals in the US.

Considering the US population is 303M, that means 27% of the US
population is here illegally?

Oh your god, this is income that would be lost regarless of who held
the job because of the housing market down turn and believe me if the
illegal workers did not have the job americans would have the chance
to go to NV from all over the country and WOULD. I hope they all took
their wives and childen with them saving the state of NV millions in
welfare because the scam is to always claim the father is not in the

The proof is in the recording itself!!! The verizon reps state the rate on

Well, I must be lucky: It drains slowly. If I get 1 or 2 inches of
water it takes about 5 minutes or so. In fact, this improved a bit
since I used the enzyme.

I agree I have to use the snake eventually. I have a crawl space where
I can probably access the pipes easily, but I do not want to go down
there in this damp and rainy weather.

Also, for future issues like this I think it would be best to develop
the capability to clear the pipe from the bathroom.

The bathroom is relatively new. The house was built 60 year ago, but
the previous owner must have done a remodel within the past 10 years
or so.

I am afraid to pry the knob though. One poster was saying earlier that
he has seen this type of knob at his mother's home, and it was secured
from the back.

Even if the clog clears, I will cut the backpanel of the counter in
the kitchen and the Sheetrock and see if I can reach the knob and the
pipes from behind.

By the way, thanks for all the suggestions.

Hello Folks:

I don't know what type of drain pipes I have.

If I have plastic (PVC?) pipes, what happens if I were to use Liquid
Plummer or something similar with a lot of caustic material in it?

I looked up on internet and some say it is not good, some claim it is
OK.

Deguza

P.S.: I am finding out that I have fixtures made by Andre. But I think
the knob and the mechanism is by someone else. Probably came with the
bathtub.

Hello Bob:

I am trying to clean a clogged drain. I am being told that I am
supposed to stick a snake through the hole that the knob covers.

Since I could not get that knob off, I thought maybe this enzyme stuff
may help loosen the clogged material.

So far no luck, though.

The link works fine. Goes to Windows Live and there are two pics. Works
for others too. Check your yard.

Ok....... are you getting any flow ...that is, does the tub empty
after many minutes or hours?

Or does it not empty after many hours?

If you're getting some flow....empties after many minutes you might
get lucky with a chemical drain opener.

Unfortunately, using a chemical drain opener will preclude using the
plunger with standing water (there would be a good chance in splashing
the stuff all over place)

Also in order to get really effective plunger action you've got to
block the overflow....sometimes not easy to do completely in a bathtub
or even a bathroom sink. And depend on where the clog is...plunging
could just send air & water up the vent.

A really badly blocked drain often needs a snake...... a slow drain or
even a "very slow" drain can be opened with enzyme drain cleaner or
chemical drain cleaner.

If the tub is on the first floor and the house is built on a
crawlspace....you can access the drain plumbing from the crawlspace.
There might be a cleanout in the bathtub line.

But now that another poster has pointed out that I missed in your OP
you clogged drain reference.......

The knob might pry off......revealing some sort of fastening. But
if the installation is really old, the knob might be frozen on the
shaft & prying might break something. If you do choose to attempt to
pry the knob off, use two same size screwdrivers or small pry bars and
protect the surface of the tub with cardboard or wood (paint
stirrers). Pry gently ...... its an acquired skill (unfortunately,
acquired by breaking things)

You know, I read his OP twice and still missed the last sentence with
the clooged drain reference both times....my mistake.
