Why just in bike lanes? I hate cyclists who ride against traffic. (notice the period)
It's enough to worry about the car behind me that's trying to get on the highway
as I pass the entrance ramp without worrying about the idiot on the bike
coming toward me against traffic and in my face. This happens way too
often (like maybe 45 minutes ago) and they usually have their iPod in the ears.
The rules of the road here are that pedestrians walk against traffic and some cyclists
think that includes them I guess. Which is probably why they think it's
ok to wear ipods.

Just try to avoid a head on collision with them.
Many cyclists swear (they are the survivors) that they are safer that
way.

Problem is that you sometime have to choose between hitting
them and swerving in front of the car. The thing that bugs me

Or the idiot kids who come blazing down the steep hill from the high school
at over 40 mph (speed limit is 30 mph) on the tree-lined SIDEWALK on the
LEFT side of the road. So...I'm at a stop sign, waiting to turn right, and I
look right, and don't see anything except trees, then look left, and start
to turn right. Kid FLIES past me, and I still can't believe I didn't hit
him. And, of course, the kid was wearing an iPod instead of a helmet. If the
timing had been different, he'd have rammed into the side of my car and gone
flying. How, exactly, can anyone be so dumb? I feel sorry for the poor
driver who kills this kid.

I think I see your confusion: speed limit signs note the *maximum* speed
you're supposed to travel at, not the *minimum*. Where I live, we are
taught that before being licensed to drive.
But I like your style. Let's amend the rule to fairly consider both
sides. My proposal, based on your observation that cars are faster than
bikes: any driver who cannot outpace a cyclist between two points (e.g.,
traffic lights) will have their license revoked. Agreed?

We got the idea of rolling through stop signs from watching *all* the
cars doing it, not from seeing the *rare* cyclist do it. But drivers go
out of their way to bitch about the cyclist for some reason. I would
*welcome* an increase in stop sign/traffic light enforcement, because it
would be 100x more burdensome to car drivers.

Weird. The best shipping company, without a doubt, is the USPS. I have been
using them exclusively for all my business shipping for the past 18 years,
and only one box went missing. And that one was probably delivered properly
and simply stolen from in front of the door (NYC apt building). Also, they
are a LOT cheaper and a LOT faster than UPS or FedEx ground. My suppliers
lots of different companies to ship to me. UPS is fine, as is FedEx
overnight, however, FedEx ground is the worst on earth. The drivers pull
into my semi-circle driveway and THROW the package out up against the
garage. I have actually seen them do this twice. I had long suspected it,
since the boxes were always in front of the detached garage instead of on
the covered back porch, as requested in notes on all 4 doors to the house.
Every other carrier has figured it out, but no amount of complaining to
FedEx ground has gotten them to change what they do. Apparently getting out
of the truck is not part of delivering packages. The manager of the local
office said, "Well, people are coming home from work, so we like to leave
things in front of the garage." Okay, let's see what's wrong with that. 1-My
stuff is addressed to a BUSINESS, so no one is "coming home from work". We
work at home. 2-Why would anyone want their stuff left in the driveway where
anyone could see it and take it? 3-Why would anyone want their stuff left
uncovered in the driveway instead of a covered doorway? 4-How am I supposed
to know there's been a delivery if the box is just tossed onto the driveway?
But...FedEx ground did pay for the roll of silk and the repairs to the
snowblower required by said roll getting jammed in it. That's how I figured
out they just tossed stuff into the driveway. There was probably 3" of snow
when the package was "delivered", and DH started up the snowblower when
there was about a foot. At least one side of the driveway was cleared before
the blower failed to eat the silk.

Same here. Worst, by far, is FedEx. When it was still around, I
used to insist on DHL as the only alternative to USPS because it had a
"last mile" arrangement with USPS and could deliver to P.O. boxes.
Delivery to street addresses only is a deal-killer, for me.

They're fine for packages, it's just first-class mail they screw up. Or
maybe ALL mail. We sent something in an envelope overnight or special
delivery or something that required a signature (long time ago) which we
didn't hear about when we thought we should. The USPS told us that they
couldn't even begin a trace until a month later. Eventually it turned
up, but this caused more anxiety than we wanted to deal with.
I'm really glad that banks offer free bill-pay services now.

When it comes to practical technologies and trains working on time (as

Oh, I just realized... Celebration is considered "New Urbanism" which
