You don't go to one of those churches, like Sarah Palin's, where they
think that war and death are ok, that the Iraq occupation was "a
calling from God", and that if another pipeline is paid for with
earmarked funds that it is "God's will", do you?
I'll wait for your response, to let you know why I ask those

But it's not AK's money. It's YOUR money. AK takes $5 in aid from the
federal government for each dollar they contribute in federal income
taxes. Without that federal aid, AK residents wouldn't receive their
welfare checks. (They might actually use their oil profit taxes on
state government expenditures rather than providing welfare for all it's
residents).

It's HER income, regardless of who pays it. It's not like she's using
tax money earmarked for the public to buy her clothes. She has a right
to use HER income any way she wants - or do you want the gov't to
start telling you how to spend your income and control more of your
life?

Commies, in essence. Guv and news media controlled by a cadre of
commissars who reap huge benefits from the labor of others.
I saw Paulson all over the TV this past weekend, and not one
interviewer mentioned his $500 million in Goldman Sachs take, or that
anybody with sense sees him as a fox with chicken blood sticking
feathers all over his face as he explains how he will protect the
coop.
My main political concern used to be that guv employment would get so
bloated that those workers would control every election, perpetuating
waste and featherbedding.
But what has happened is quite different, and I watched in amazement
as it transpired. Started with the lionization of CEO pukes like Jack
Welch on magazine covers all through the '90's.
Never could understand why accumulation of vast wealth is a desirable
trait, but it has been lately. Maybe that will change now, but I have
my doubts.
As long as "they" make sure "the folks" can afford cable TV and food
on the table, it won't change. Idle hands and hunger are the mother
of protest and change.

Then you'd probably be better off shopping at Target. Costco fools
people with loss leaders so they think they're getting value for their
membership fee. If you have an understanding of what things cost and
you take an overall view of their inventory, Costco probably won't save
you much over shopping at non membership stores. Many people convince
themselves they save money simply because they paid for a membership and
to think they haven't saved money would give them cognitive dissonance.
Many of these people never shop anywhere else other than Costco (so as
to make use of the membership card) so they really don't know what
things cost elsewhere.
That said, if you know what you're going to use the membership for and
scouted Costco's loss leaders you can make good on the $50 membership by
shopping wisely. I certainly wouldn't pay a 10% overall penalty for a
basket full of random stuff.
As always, YMMV.

Marx said it best, in The Communist Manifesto:
"The bourgeoisie cannot exist without constantly revolutionising the
instruments of production, and thereby the relations of production,
and ith them the whole relations of society. Conservation of the old
modes of production in unaltered form, was, on the contrary, the first
condition of existence for all earlier industrial classes. Constant
revolutionising of production, uninterrupted disturbance of all social
conditions, everlasting uncertainty and agitation distinguish the
bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen
relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices and
opinions, are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before
they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is
profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses, his
real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind."
People read Rand merely because she helps them to AVOID facing "with
sober senses" the real conditions of their lives.
One condition, which is almost unbearable and unadmissable for people
who work as financial or software technicians in the financial
industry (and who are often sighted reading Rand on break), is that
what Marx meant by the "bourgeoisie" is in fact a vanishingly small
class: the word doesn't mean "middle class" in any statistical sense,
but expresses a qualitative distinction.
The bourgeoisie of today are quite simply people able to accumulate
wealth over several generations, and the bourgeoisie in America have
often based their fortunes on slave trading and slave owning. Their
heirs are indistinguishable from other slobs at parties except perhaps
by lengths of lines of coke because the popular culture has masked and
mystified growing inequality with a thug's egalitarianism.
Rand lets people play at being bourgeois when in fact not even the
Harvard MBA will insulate today's financial technicians from long-term
unemployment.
Quite simply, means of production are being revolutionized today in

Only if you live in a state where insurance is manditory. Actually if
you don't drive far it's one of the cheapest eras to own a car. It's car
insurance and the crooks that insure that have destroyed the auto
industry.
