Your gross income minus all savings will give you total annual
expenses that include taxes, donations, pet maintenance, and
everything.

Divide that amount by the number of people in the family and divide
that by 365 and that gives your daily expense.

Calculating how much you really need depends on yourself alone. (That
should be apparent with all the responses in this thread.)

Yes, optometrists are professionally bound to check your fit. They are not
in the business of selling eyeglasses or profiting from their sale. Kind
of like how medical doctors don't sell drugs or care where you get your
prescription filled. Think about why it has to be that way, ethically and

True, but I get my eyes checked by an opthalmologist for a number of
reasons. She (and her office) aren't that easy to access.

As everyone knows, the USA has a lot of weight to lose. Most of it
stems from the fast food society, a culture that we seem bent on
exporting throughout the world. This does no one any good.

I think it is a SHAM the way that certain fast food corporations treat
the consumer who is trying to eat healthy. Let's use Quizno's as an
example of what I mean here.

I'm sure you've been to one of these restaurants. It's basically a
Subway with a toaster in the middle, and the sandwiches taste
relatively good although they have been criticized for the excessive
calories and fat count in most of their sandwiches. And, of course, it
goes without saying that they really push their side orders of chips
and large soda drinks as well.

But I personally never felt bad about Quizno's until their recent
round of advertising. They are now pushing a flatbread sandwich they
call the "Sammie." Have you seen these ads? The photographs are
guaranteed to get you into their franchises, especially if you are
watching calories and trying to eat healthy. There's a photo in your
Sunday paper of a Sammie Grilled Chicken Balsamic sandwich . . . the
sandwich is literally bursting at the seams, stuffed with 12 or 13
visible chunks of grilled chicken, a ton of lettuce and tomato, and
right above it -- in giant letters -- ONLY 200 CALORIES.

That, my friends, is one of the most blatant shams I've seen in a long
time.

The ad drew me into my local Quizno's franchise, where I ordered the
above sandwich and then sat there in disbelief looking at the tiny
little thing that I was served. Yes, the sandwich you GET might be
only 200 calories. The guy making the Sammie used what appeared to be
a teaspoon to dole out one level spoonful of a lettuce and tomato mix,
on top of what were 6 or 7 small bites of chicken. All of it very
carefully measured onto a tiny round piece of bread. (The sodium
content of the balsamic dressing was off the charts, giving this
little appetizer sized "meal" an overly-salty and unhealthy flavor.)

I'm a consumer advocate, so I called the 800 number on the door of my
franchise with a complaint. Oddly, the number was right below a giant
photo of the sandwich I was eating - or, I should say, the sandwich I
THOUGHT I'd be eating.

They have "never gotten a complaint about this before" according to
the Quizno's representative I spoke with. When I later spoke to the
franchise owner, he told me that he hears this same concern from
everyone, and agrees 100% with me that this is unorthodox advertising.

Looking for truly healthy and low-cal food in a fast food restaurant?
Look further than Quizno's. Those folks are false advertisers, at
best.

I recently read they have a new CEO who is trying to turn things
around. So far his biggest move is to limit coupons to 4 times a year
rather than almost every other week.
It seems when customers see a coupon regularly they stop going when
it is not there. He is hoping that after a few weeks they will give in.
Might work, on the other hand they might just wait, something I used to
do with Boston Market when there was one near my office.

A Quiznos opened near where I worked a few years ago. Co-workers would
on occasion use the coupons to get food there. They often remarked
how expensive the place was. No surprise that it closed down after
less than a year in business. Maybe the steep lease rent was what did
them in there. I just could not see spending $8 for a sandwich and
small bag of chips and drink. No way.

They have a "private" page somewhere with lower prices... I just can't find
it until I go to the office and remember to check my bookmarks there. I
order 100-200 cartridges at a time so I'm considered a good customer I

The only maintenance you should do yourself is change the filter
often. They say about once a month, but you could probably get by
with changing it once every 2 or 3 months if you run it with the fan
swith in "auto". Good filters are very important on systems with air
conditioning to prevent the a/c coil (evaporator) from getting plugged
up with dirt and lint. The cheap fiberglass filters are almost
worthless, use the pleated type. As long as you follow the above
suggestion, your evaporator coil will stay clean and you furnace will
last much longer.

If your evaporator coil is dirty, your heating repair person will need
to clean it. It really isn't something that most homeowners can do on
their own. It usually requires cutting a hole in the sheetmetal to
get access to it, and then vacumming it, blowing it out with
compressed air, and/or washing it with chemicals and water. if it is
really plugged up bad it may need to be completely removed from the
furnace and taken outside to wash with the garden hose. This would
require evacuating the refrigerant circuit and cutting the refrigerant
lines.

Like I mentioned in a post above, leave the fan swithch on the
thermostat to "on" untill the service guy can come out. This might
help get more airflow through your furnace and keep it running a
little longer before tripping on the limit switch.

Wool stretches, so hanging isn't that good an idea. Careful pressing
can rememdy the situation, but why do it if you don't need to?

Back in the 1950s my grandma made me a skirt out of some blue plaid
orlon+wool material. The thing was machine washed and dried countless
times with no harm and never needed pressing. This is long before the
days of permanent press. It's probably still being worn by some girl in
a third-woeld country...

Hand wash in cold water. Not warm water, not cool water, cold water. Use
detergent, not soap. Don't swish it around, don't wring it, just let it
soak, even overnight. Drain, put in clean cold water to rinse - again,
don't agitate. May need two or three rinses. Drain, and roll up in a towel
to dry - don't squeeze it or wring it.

If it was an expesive garment and you really don't want to lose it, have it
dry cleaned.
